First International Symposium on Tribal Health
Swami Vivekanand Health Mission (SVHM) Society was founded in the year 2012 by some young doctors and philanthropists inspired by Swami Vivekanand and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for the serving of humanity and since then has been incessantly working in realizing its mission statement which is to worship the motherland by serving the neglected, exploited brethren and pilgrims in the backward, rural, hilly and tribal areas and rendering them with medical, education and other social aids.
The credit for establishing the SVHM Society and keeping it constantly progressive and dynamic on the path of humanity goes to its indefatigable and assiduous Secretary Dr. Anuj Singhal and due to his perseverance, the Society is now running fourteen charitable hospitals, out of which eleven are in the remote, hilly, inaccessible areas and pilgrimage sites of Uttarakhand, two are in Uttar Pradesh and one is in Karol Bagh, Delhi.
Born in a middle-class family of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh Dr. Anuj Singhal, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was blessed with extreme intelligence, versatility and multiple talents. After completing his early education from Saharanpur, Dr. Anuj did his MBBS from S.N. Medical College, Agra followed by post-graduation in Family Medicine.
Ideologizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since his student days and inspired by the life of Swami Vivekanand, Dr. Anuj started his altruistic journey in 1997 from a backward remote and tribal dominated area of district Wayanad, Kerala. He established himself as an ever-available medical person and did commendable work for the prevention of Sickle Cell Anaemia among the native tribes there.
After serving ceaselessly for 15 years in Wayanad, Dr Anuj & his wife Dr Tarashree shifted to another underserved area, which was at Dharmawala, a tribal dominated area located 40kilometers from city of Dehradun, Uttarakhand and continued to address the plight of needy and underprivileged by providing charitable health facilities in the remote, hilly and inaccessible areas. Pained by the plight of the pilgrims visiting the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand and seeing them suffer due to lack of adequate health facilities, Dr Anuj took the initiative and established absolutely free ICU equipped hospitals for the devotees visiting the Dhams.
While discharging his responsibilities as the Secretary of the Society, Dr. Anuj has led the Society in other philanthropic domains also like education and community social and health programmes. Some other remarkable achievements of Dr. Anuj are his inclusion as an Expert Member (Social Scientist) in the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Dr. Anuj is one of the nine national experts included in this board. Dr. Anuj is also a member of the Char Dham Yatra Committee of Uttarakhand constituted by the PMO and many more such achievements.
Humanity, especially the needy, socially and economically backward and tribal classes and pilgrims will forever remain indebted to this yeoman service of Dr. Anuj and his immeasurable contribution in the field of health will leave an indelible mark on the pages of history.
